SERVICES

Located in the heart of Whitianga Mercury Bay Radiology provides X-Ray and ultrasound services.

Our staff will advise you of all costs involved with your X-Ray or ultrasound prior to your scan.

Medical Imaging - X-Ray
An X-Ray (radiograph) is a special image that uses radiation to create images of bones and other internal tissues such as your lungs and bowel.

Having an X-Ray will expose your body to a very low level of radiation. The risk to your health from this is very small and the benefit of the X-Ray procedure is far more important than the small estimated risk. No radiation remains in your body after the test.

If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant, please inform the booking coordinators at the time of booking your appointment.

Medical Imaging - Ultrasound
An ultrasound examination is performed using a hand held device called a transducer, that is moved across the body with a sliding and rotating action. The transducer transmits high-frequency sound waves into your body. The sound waves are then reflected from the different tissues in different ways and are converted to electrical impulses, which are used to produce a moving image on the screen.

Preparation for an ultrasound will vary depending on the type of examination requested. Your preparation requirements will be outlined to you by our staff.

Ultrasound does not have any known risks, side effects or complications and is considered very safe.

Results
The images obtained from your X-Ray or ultrasound are recorded digitally and are electronically sent to Hamilton Radiology for review and interpretation by their Radiologists.

The Radiologist will complete a report which will then be sent electronically to your referring doctor.

Your diagnostic images will be stored as electronic image files by Hamilton Radiology and can be accessed by your referring doctor.
